About Ohr Habayit

Light of the Home. Care. Hope. Refresh. Fix.

Ohr Habayit is a volunteer effort in Los Angeles built on a simple observation: when a Jewish family goes through a hard season, illness, divorce, loss, or money stress, the everyday upkeep of the home is one of the first things to slip. A dead outlet stays dead. A leaky faucet keeps dripping. The small fixes that make a house feel like a home stop happening.

Our volunteers fill that gap. Electricians, plumbers, handymen, painters, and handy neighbors who show up, fix what needs fixing, and leave quietly. No fanfare, no paperwork marathons, no one made to feel like a case. Just a home that works again.

Who We Help

Jewish families in the Los Angeles area going through a difficult stretch. That is the whole criteria. You do not need to belong to a particular shul or community, and how observant you are does not matter. If you are part of the Jewish community and your home needs a hand, we are here.

How It Works

  1. Reach Out Privately

Fill out a short form telling us what your home needs. Everything you share stays private.

  2. We Call Within 48 Hours

Someone from our team reaches out to understand the job and find a time that works for you.

  3. A Volunteer Comes By

A trusted volunteer or partner contractor handles the repair, quietly and respectfully.

Our Promise

Private, always.

Asking for help takes courage, and we treat it that way. Your information is never shared, your story is never told, and our volunteers understand that discretion is part of the job. What happens at your home stays between you and us.

Ohr Habayit is a young organization, currently volunteer-run. Our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt application is in progress; our tax-deductible status is pending.
